Has a new console ever had it prices cut so quickly? It's only been a month.

Yes. This happened to the Xbox1 when it launched in Australia.

It launched at around $800AU. The gamecube was around $400, and the PS2 around the same price.

It sold well at launch - for a week or two. Then the sales vanished.

MS cut $200 off the retail price (in one swoop!), and ended up sending out "game" vouchers to everyone who had bought it in the first 2 weeks to compensate them (the vouchers didn't do much - sort of allowed purchase of one free MS game - crappy titles only).

MS had to do this, as the current price made the machine completely uncompetitive (regardless of features).

...

Sony may well be forced to do the same. This situation stinks, I think retailers have been done over by Sony. And as the article says, no retailer wants a LARGE quantity of 400pound devices sitting in their storeroom.
