Because they cannot afford a price cut today or maybe tomorrow does not equate to death just a slowing down of sales. Lets wait and see what the rest of the year brings Sony to my knowledge no fat lady has sung yet.
I am not a PS3 owner but I would imagine if the console died you would get it fixed especially if a launch console. I would hope if they cannot repair the console you will get a BC one back as that would be a bit naughty.
I am one of the unlucky few with a launch 360 fitted with its typhoon jet fighter exhaust. In my case I would hope to god they supplied me a new one.
