This talk of price of players is nonsense. Currently, only early adopters are buying the HD media discs. That means the people that understand what HD is for, and who know quality. These people just don't care that the player is $200 more. They want quality, and if that means waiting for money or buying the lesser quality, they will wait ! In Europe, I've seen that the HD discs start to come at DVD prices in stores (30 €). That means there's now an incentive to buy them instead of DVD. Of course, only people that understand HD and that have the hardware will buy those. We don't have lots of HD content in Europe, so this can work well for Sony. With a good TV set, you can bypass buying a good DVD player (that upscales better than your TV), and buy a HD player instead. And for that, the PS3 is a VERY good choice, as it's easily upgradeable, and it is a cheap player. The HD-DVD extension of MS doesn't even come close as a choice, as nearly no HD TV accepts 1080p through YUV, as it's not standard at all. Fortunately, 1080i has the same quality, as the source is actually 1080i on these HD discs. I don't know what the PS3 can do, but if it can upscale DVD (better than the TV set), or at least deinterlace them, then it's a winner for this format war (not as a game console).

I know several home theater enthusiasts are actually waiting to be sure of the winner, but most agrre that Blu-Ray should win.

And as it goes, even if HD-DVD doesn't disappear, it will be rendered irrelevant, as everything will be on Blu-Ray.
