^ I read it as the father of a toddler was left in a car while his dad was gambling. 3 parties, not 2 like it should be. It needs that comma after toddler really. Comma in this case is needed to be used as the "left in a van outside a city casino while his dad gambled inside" is not essential to the main part of the sentence, that being: "The Father of a toddler pleaded guilty etc"
