They sadly have no choice in the matter. The industry is at a crossroads. Consumers, console manufacturers, and studios are trending towards a Digital Distribution model, but retailers are ready to fight tooth and nail to keep DD at bay, and as a result manufacturers have trouble reasonably pricing DD-only devices.
Just look at iPods. They aren't even limited strictly to DD, but a 16gb iPod still costs at least $200.
You could say that Sony shouldn't have gone with a DD-only model because of this, but DD has to begin taking over at some point, and high prices will accompany the transition. Also, the PSP-3000 is still being sold, so if you don't like DD or care for the high price that accompanies a DD-centric device, you can always stick with the 3000 (or a 2000, which is what I'm doing). Either way, having the PSP Go! available is better than not having it available, regardless the price.
