Hmm, I don't think I tried the Emporer Dune game, but the earlier RTS was alright. I preferred the 1992 Dune game though. Not a RTS exactly, but it was pretty fun from what I remember.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor:_Battle_for_Dune Emperor was a relatively obscure strategy game that was released around 2001 by Westwood. It had all sorts of goodies like a non-linear campaign, three relatively balanced factions and recruitable subfactions, great gameplay and audiovisual presentation etc. IMO it's one of the best RTS games Westwood ever released, and it's certainly better than Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 - and it's a damn shame more people never got to try it out. |
Yeah, I looked it up when you first mentioned it. I may look into playing it some time if I can find it somewhere.
Also, I am fully in support with your comment that you'd like to try 7 out before switching. Always good to do. That's part of the reason I got the beta and now RC. If you have a second hard drive, I'd recommend installing the RC there to try it out some yourself. Then you can see which games work and how the XP virtual machine works and such. I'd get the version that at least has the XP virtual machine. I don't know any specific reason why I'd need the next version up, but I'm not completely sold on buying now myself. Yes, I do plan to get it some time, but currently money is a little tight and I'd rather spend it on other things. Hopefully I can catch another deal some time before the RC expires.
