I don't really get why you need a reason from him on what games he wants to buy... or why he enjoys the games that he enjoys.
From the little that I got from your OP, I suspect that he likes multiplayer games more than single player ones at this point in his life.
MWF2 is probably a good buy for him even if it ends up being similar to any other fps. I used to hate fps, but now like them quite a lot. I don't play fps single player campaign but I'll get MWF2, too.
