| Dodece said: I have to concur with others. Anyone claiming to have not witnessed bullying is somewhat naive. The reality is that its a social and psychological dynamic. The most rational explanation for your lack of recollection is that you resided within the sphere of protection. Basically the largest clique of the class which ensured that you were not in a position to be dominated. Nor did you feel any need to dominate another to elevate your position. Bullying behavior is almost always on the outskirts of the social hierarchy. Among the kids that are not part of the in crowd. Obviously you would not know this being inside, but anyone sitting in the outskirts could see this day in and day out. Students generally break into smaller units. I guarantee you that in each of your classes there was a bully, and there was some that were bullied. You were just oblivious to all of it, because it was not part of your scene. Meanwhile the guy at the back of the class is getting tormented regularly by the guy a few rungs higher up the food chain. Personally I was not bullied as a child, because I was borderline psychotic. I was a mad man with the strength to match, and I was not beyond using any available weapon. I would throw a fist sized rock into your face. Club you with a stick. Claw you with my finger nails, or even stab you with a writing implement. Bottom line I was generally too fucking nuts to be fucked with, and any bully that tried fast found that out. Thus I found myself a cadre of good friends growing up. Eventually the bullied pick up on the fact that the lunatic on the swing sets was the safe place to be. More times then I can count I was escorting someone home. It did not matter if they had three or four guys coming after them. At the time I was pretty oblivious to it, but recollecting back to the time for some I was probably the only comfort they had. Speaking to the stereotype of the football playing bullies. That is purely fictional, and is the fodder of Hollywood hacks. The majority of bullies are antisocial misanthropes. Which have little social standing, and have a poor home environment. They bully because they have nothing, and feel poorly about themselves. So they gain a sense of well being by dominating others. Your typical bully only has a couple friends, and he rarely participates in group activities. Basically the bully is at best found in a group of three, and they are also usually the one in trouble for doing everything else wrong. Then again you guys might not have had issues with bullies, because they are all out living on the streets. The sad truth is that bullies mugging other kids for lunch money is more often then not about the bully getting enough money for them to buy a lunch. Perhaps in South America when you are that low on the totem you probably couldn't even afford to go to school. |
On the first statement, I can asure you I knew everyone of my 36 classmates and none where bullied or did bully anyone, we ended up being close friends with everyone.
On the second statement, maybe you dont know but Chile and Argentina are the countries in southamerica that have the highest living standards, in chile at least everyone goes to school unless the decide to quit, but you cant until you turn 16.
