I really liked the combat style in FFXII as it becomes more fluid and it takes away the annoying open-world/combat area transitions. Also the gambit system almost everyone hated with a passion, calling it a cheap way to play the game, but the system is never forced on you, I used it only in the early stages of the game, and ditched it because i wanted to control my characters, but to those people who don't want to have the trouble to input each action, you can just put a string of defined actions, so actually the gambit system I think pleases both the hardcore fans of FF and the newbies to the whole saga. Story wise, FFXII also tried to innovate from the same old formula of "Lady in distress meets boy who wants to save her and the world from big bad powerful enemy" that has been haunting FF since the beginning (The exceptions from that formula are FFVI, FFVIII and FFXII). I thought that the story in FFXII was a more mature one, that really had you engaged in all that political backstabbing and tension in crescendo in the nations of Ivalice. It didn't have a love story as well, and that, I believe, is something that angered the fans, since almost all FF have a love story involved. FFXII to me is tied with FFVII as my second favourite FF of all time, i really enjoyed both playthroughs I made in the game, and if it weren't for the immense amount of RPG that i have yet to play, i would do another run in it again xD |
12s story was as generic as u can get. As game informer put it they are so completly sick of the story of a big old bad evil empire taking over. Thats the most overused story of them all. The story was extremely bland and boring to me at least. The main character was by far the worst in the series. Didnt even feel like a main character half the time.
the combat was fine to an extent but grew boring fast imo
Owner of all consoles cept DS.....Currently in love with prototype!
