Case by case scenario. I played BioShock for 5-6 hours before I put it down, never to play it again. I played Bullet Witch to completion, twice and didn't like it. Some games, I know from the demo aren't my thing. Some games, like Final Fantasy Tactics or Saints Row 2 don't impress me initially, but after several hours, become an obsession.
