American civilian lives are worth more to the world than Afganistan lives. A terrorist hit on American soil can cause a trillion dollars in lost wealth. That could make thousands around the world starve to death.
America is a symbol of freedom that helps others fight against oppression. When that symbol is attacked the oppression in the world increases.
