The wii and 360 are already cheap enough that anyone and everyone can afford them if they want.
Ps3 has never been priced at a consumer friendly range. $300 is a decent price though and makes a huge difference. |
Do you really think that $300 is low enough to lure in customers that are still on the fence. I mean the 360 launched with a $300 core unit 4 years ago, and has had a $300 or less console ever since. In fact last year even though their "pro" console was priced at $300 for the last half of the year the Arcade model SKU priced at $200 was moving over 40 % of their volume. I think dedicated Sony loyalists already own a PS3 and the casuals don't come on board until the hardware is on the lower side of $200.
Not to mention obviously MS is going to counter the price move, and I have reason to believe that Nintendo will be dropping the price of the Wii soon as well.
I think this christmas we will see
360 for $129 Arcade, $229 Pro Bundle, and $299 Elite Bundle <-- assuming they keep 3 SKU's
Wii for $199 (perhaps start shipping with WSR) <-- entice people who want more then one system
PS3 for $299 / $399 <-- assuming they keep 2 SKU's
