I heard ps3 was outselling 360 before the 360 got a price cut. I asked all my friends, they said they would buy a ps3 if the price was lower. A ps3 slim with a lower price would kill it. |
There's 2 parts to my original post
1) PS3 Slim is not what would increase the sales of PS3, it would be a drop in price. Look at the Super Nintendo and NES, they both sold great and they never changed. PS 1 and 2 sold amazing with price cuts and then eventually were released in slim form to reduce cost and more profits for Sony. I'm not denying that slim would create more money for Sony, I'm saying that PS3 Slim is not just gonna sky rocket sales. I betcha anything that if the Slim is released with the $399 price tag it would only have a spike in sales for those nuts that like to have it all (just look at PS3 sale spikes when they released a different box for the PS3!)
2) The only way you can make the Xbox 360 so much less appealing then a PS3 it would be if you take away the games that come out for both systems. Sure, Sony has great exclusives, but so does the 360. For example, while Sony has a power house title with GT5, the 360 offers a great quality title almost as good, if not better than it with a lesser following on the 360. Sony may have Metal Gear Solid 4 exclusive but Splinter Cell by the looks of it will be just as good on its own as a MGS 4. Now all you have left are multiplatforms, if you can get both systems the same titles and you have exclusives for both that are way similar and just as good the mass population will side with the cheaper offering. Remember that in the end is the mass market that chooses to side with what offers the most amount of titles, not what's implied as perceived value of the console itself.
