There have been some open ended games that ive played that worked with multi discs. Essentially, they repeated the worlds on the discs, and the main thing you changed discs for was the cutscenes. When you got to a certain point in the story, you changed discs, but were still able to go to every place you visited on previous discs. This could be done, maybe.
