@leo-j : I don't think it's a myth since mine broke 3 times, but of course depending on whether our PS3 broke or not, we believe or not in the myth...
The real answer is nobody knows really, except Sony of course...
One fact / hint they give us is they redesigned completely the PS3, as I told you the components are not at all in the same order in recent models. If there was no problem, I doubt they would have changed the design. It costs money after all.
