I agree that the 60 Gb has definitely more faults than more recent models.
I've got 3 PS3s at home right now, one broken 60 Gb with an expired guaranty and 2 more recent 80 Gb PS3 under 3 year guaranty.
I must have the world record in broken PS3s. My 60 Gb actually broke 3 times, once due to the blueray drive, once due to the ylod and once that was the display card. I'm done with backward compatibility, when I want to read PS2 games I'll simply use... my PS2. (which never broke, not even once).
The 60 Gb PS3 is not that reliable. By the way, if you look closely at more recent 80 Gb models, you'll see they completely redesigned the PS3, video outputs / network adapters / power, everything is in a different order.
