I've always wondered why England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland fieled their own teams instead of making a stronger single team. Germany doesnt have a Bohemian or Saxony team.

This team is called Czech Republic nowadays and wouldn't consider itself a part of Germany

But as to your approval: I think 50 mio. inhabitants should be enough to form a decent team even without the 10 mio. of NI, Scotland and Wales...

My bad, I meant Bavaria.

And I'm sure the Scots are tired of sucking :)

I think that beside there won't ever be any Great Britain team, the single federations are doing not too bad:

Northern Island messed up the qualification to the Euro just because they became to nervous and are now second in a group (in placement order) with Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovenia and San Marino. Problem is, that they play against the three top teams in their last three games.

Wales is kind of hopeless, the closest they came in the last 20 years was probably, when they lost against Germany 1989 in the qualifiers. This World Cup they're nearly out due to, that they're fourth in a group with Germany, Russia and Finnland, Azerbajan and Liechtenstein. Still a shame, that Ryan Giggs never had the chance to experience a international tournament.

Scotland qualified for the WCs 1990 and 1998 (if I remember right) and has a fair chance this time. The Netherlands are already qualified with 21 points from 7 games. Behind that it's a tough fight between Scotland (7 points) Macedonia (7P) Iceland (4P) and Norway (3P) for the play-off-place. Not out of reach, but Scotland still has to face the Netherlands in the last game (3 games to go).

England has qualified for most of the tournaments and I would say, that a WC or Euro isn't as great, if they're not there. Long live the fun rivalship between Germany and England
