I think the whole argument towards guns in America is surrounded by the people's 'right to bear arms' which has been part of the constitution for a very long time has it not? (I'm not from US so don't hold me to that one).
I don't see the point in people have pistols and handguns for self defence... as shams said here in Australia we don't get any of that... there are very rarely any shootings, and generally people with guns are highly regulated with strict laws and buy back schemes to get guns out of the streets (I think that all happened when Marty Bryant slaughtered so many people in Tassie years ago).
In regards to Jack Thompson, I wonder if he is still blaming violence in video games as the main cause after they have discovered the gunman's letter detailing why he did what he did and what his reasoning for it all was. Completely had nothing to do with Videogames, but I'm sure he'll still stand with the point that he played videogames and they are what inspired him to complete these actions.
