Of course it is. When no one likes a sport, any growth in it could be considered "fastest." If one person likes it, and suddenly 5 more do, that's a 500% growth, whereas if 70 million people like it, and suddenly 5 more do, that growth is insignificant. |
Even if you keep third world countries out Soccer is far more popular among advanced countries than Football which is a US only sport...
Main reason soccer isn't more popular in the US is that it doesn't have breaks every 2 minutes for commercials...(Thank god!).
Heck the number of people watching the superbowl every year is very small compared to the number of people watching the world soccer cup every 4 years...
For all that football is popular in the US by the way, how many people actually play it ? very very few....
There's over 250k french that play soccer in clubs during any given year...
