Agree completely. If someone goes on a rampage in Australia, the best they (usually) get away with is a stabbing or two. The only people who have easy access to guns are mobsters (and tend to just kill each other - from where Im from anyway).
This whole US principle of propagating guns to keep the "government" under control is now completely outdated. Sure, back in the 1800's it was a valid (and useful) idea. But not these days. Guns don't do much against aerial bombardment, guided missiles or tank rounds - if the US military wanted to stage a coup, no one in the US could stop them. Citizens owning guns certainly wouldn't make a difference, just get a lot more people killed.
