@crumas : no offense, but you can't compare a game like Oblivion to Final Fantasy... We need more western RPGs series before they can even compete with the JRPG series...

Mass effect is only one game until now, Elder Scrolls is mostly 2 (oblivion / morrowind), their combined sales and reputation put them really far away from the biggest JRPG series like Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy... In the future they may be able to compete for this title though. Right now they're just too young.

I didn't say that all the titles on the winning list were not relevant.  I specifically said that a lot of the titles on the list are surprising picks over games like Oblivion, such as Shin Megami Tensei, particularly considering how poorly they sold.  How can that title be #3 on this list when Oblivion sold almost 4 million copies and Morrowind sold almost 2 million copies, not even including the PC versions?  Below are the sales figures for the top three Shin Megami Tensei titles:

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4  .58 m

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner  .38 m

Shin Megami Tensei II  .37 m

Please explain to me how Shin Megami Tensei could be voted as the 3rd most popular RPG of all time with pathetic sales figures like that.  Again, this demonstrates a very strong JRPG bias from those who participated in the poll.  I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, just that it's far outside what the average RPG gamer would have picked, and perhaps indicates that many of us on VGChartz are outside the mainstream in our gaming preferences.

Also, considering how "young" a series is, the first Elder Scrolls game, Elder Scrolls: Arena, was released for PC in 1994.  That was 15 years ago.
