Yea MS never ask for the receipt only the serial number of the 360. Since he got it in 2007 it's still under warranty so MS will fix it for free. You will get the same 360 back but it will have a jasper chip inside. And it doesn't matter what model 360 you have, every thing is under the same warranty.
So either your friends lying to you or he didn't call MS. If he's lying to you it may be because he voided his warranty some how and can't send it back to MS for repairs so he's trying to dump it on you. I would be careful.
