FF series is popular for these exact reasons. It is just popular to hate on it just because it is so popular. FFX has to be commended for having arguably some of the best storytelling in a JRPG thanks in part to the at the time, amazing facial expressions. Sure, the lipsynching was off sometimes due to the English voices being put against lipsynching made for Japanese dialogue but in the grand scheme of things, that was only a minor problem.
