Okay, this is odd. Earlier today, I was watching videos with no problem.
I get home from work - no changes have been made to my system whatsoever - and now my *.avi files have no audio. If I load them in WMP, it tells me this message:
Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.
And it'll direct me to this page. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...inalid=80070005
If I load it in VLC Player or DivX Player, they just automatically play it, but still - no audio.
A few things to note. First, these files are saved to the C drive, so they're not networked or even on an external. Heck, they're not even on a secondary drive. Second, I can't find any other programs using them at all.
Earlier today, the electric flashed out, and my system DID reboot then, but all it was doing prior to that was downloading. And I haven't done anything with it since, until just now. The system's sound DOES work, though. Windows makes the usual startup sounds, and I can watch Youtube videos with no problem. I tried moving the videos to a separate location on my system, but that's had no effect whatsoever. It just seems to appear that my system randomly stopped liking the DivX codecs or something, but a fresh reinstall of that does nothing for me, either.
Anybody have any clue what the HECK is up, or how to fix it?
