Wow, I really don't like the Starcraft kind of RTS =/ The isometric view and having only a few units. I hate to say it, but I may not like the entire RTS genre save for the Total War series.

Unfortunately I don't know much about Starcraft. Tried it once but just seemed a bit too old. And I don't like Aliens :p

But if you're looking for the Real-Time battles of Total War in other RTS games, then you're out of luck.

Other RTS most of the time have some sort of base-building, which Total War doesn't have at all.

But I still recommend playing Rise of Nations

=/ So is it pretty much either Civilization esque games or Starcraft Esque RTSs? One is all campaign map, and the other is all on the battlemap?

The beaty of Total War is that it's up to you wether you want to play it like Civilization (Turn-Based) or entirely focus on those battles with thousands of units, or something in between.

Other RTS (like Starcraft I guess) will require you to complete an objective a lot of the time involving some sort of building a base and creating an army.

Now Rise of Nations has a campaign map and you can choose which battle to fight but is more focussed on the battle you fight (which involves the base-building again)
