I guess I'm the odd one out, GTAIV is in my top 3 games this gen.

Yehp. And you also have a Assassin's Creed avatar, so you really like bad games. As long as you happy with it, don't care for what other's say :)

You know that calling GTA 4 and Assassin's Creed "bad games" doesn't make you seem clever...

I don't think GTA IV was a bad game, just a victim of over hyping, but Assassin's Creed was pretty bad man.

Why was it bad ? It maybe was repetitive, but the gameplay was awesome as was the atmosphere and the graphics. Story was also great.

Maybe some people were let down by the cliffhanger at the end, but it surely wasn't a bad game.

Like you said, maybe "just a victim of over hyping".

I was expecting platforming like Ubisoft's other game, Prince of Persia (the Sands of time trilogy). In fact, if my memory is correct, didn't a good number of the PoP team work on this, if not the entire/core team? I mean the platforming in that game was:

1. Press X (I think, forgot was the controls were now, lol)

2. Run in the direction you want to go.

I mean, there's absolutely nothing you had to do platforming wise, you just move the analong stick. I mean, it would have been nice if there was more emphasis on being aware of the situation rather than being a good platformer, but all you needed to do was aimlessly look around for a pile of hay, unlike what I was expecting from the E3 presentation (run towards the gate, break stuff or jump through them).

I mean, Ubisoft presented to me this stealth game with elements of Prince of Persia, with strategy that's Hitman esque (when, where, and how will you kill? And how will you escape)? But what I got was a game that ended up being MORE repetitive than GTA for christ sakes. They presented how the combat would be very technical and hard, and I you ended up having a shit load of hitpoints if you did all the side quests like me, and a stupid combat system of just countering over and over and over.

Story sucked balls, there wasn't any character development nor theme, and the concept itself wasn't interesting for the sake of it. It won't appeal to intelectual type people, or people who just want a sweet story (like me). I mean, I agree with IGN that it may have been better to reveal it was a machine in the end, but I still think that wouldn't really make the story that much more interesting.

I wouldn't say its a victim of over hyping, but simply Ubisoft completely mis-representing the game that was supposed to come out. I didn't listen to the fans, I listened to Ubisoft, and IGN to wait until the game was $30, and even still I didn't even get a B game (I came in with low expectations, and ended up even failing that) but a C game.

Here's the video I rememeber wowing me a few years ago.

The video that made me respect IGN

I mean the stealth was underwhelming, the combat was underwhelming, the platforming was underwhelming, the story was underwhelming, the missions were underwhelming, but the graphics were nice.
