The thing is that most HD releases aren't selling that well right now. Even Sony admits that below the top sellers, blu-ray and HD-DVD releases sell only a couple thousand copies. That shows that if people don't care about the movie, they'll just go with DVD.
This tells me that content is far more important than visual quality or total capacity. Once we get content that DVD doesn't have (even if it's capable of it), then the transition will truly start. After all, VHS couldn't give us menus or viewing customization, and special features had to be accessed sequentially. Right now, there is very little blu-ray and HD-DVD offer that DVD can't, even if the picture is clearer.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
