my strategy was to ride the rails and get all shards that would appear within rail distance. then i would go around the perimeter of each island. then i would go by sections on the islands - if u look at the map the buildings are seperated into convenient little sections. lucky for me, i would get shards as i saw them through the story so when i actually needed them all for the trophy i only needed about 30ish
