That's weird that VGchartz has the PS3 still below, though I guess it's really not that far off from other peoples' data. There were stories all over the internet three months ago about how the PS3 had passed the Wii.
Are you sure a higher selling system usually has a lower attach rate? Was that true of past generations? It certainly isn't true of DS versus PSP.
By the way, how do you check the lifetime software numbers on VGChartz? I can't figure it out :) |
Generally with higher selling systems, they will initially suffer from deciptively low attach ratios. With systems like the PSone, PS2 and Wii they all have such high system sales initially that they often have attach ratios lower than their competitors (I think at one time the PS2 had an TR of ~6 when the GC and Xbox had >9). I'm sure theRepublic's thread goes over this in pretty good detail, as it is an excellent thread and breaks down lifetime tie ratios into a more relavent time between purchase ratio.
When you are looking at the world weekly sales charts, there should be a section close to the bottom that has a running total software tally that has a tie ratio (I think each of the regional breakdowns have that too).
Based on the Wii's software selling rate, I wouldn't be suprised if the PS3 had a higher attach rate at the end of February this year.
