It's amazing how much serious discussion can be generated without even bothering to check the data. I'm pretty sure the PS3 passed the Wii's tie ratio in early 2009. The data on the wiki page cited in the OP by MWJW doesn't seem to have been updated since early 2008! Did anyone actually see the graphs I posted up there ^^
I do agree that the blueray player push probably hurt the PS3's tie ratio early on, though. If you look at the graph I posted, you can see that right around that time the tie ratio curve started to go negative.
