Congrats. Though I don't know what game you're talking about...the graphics didn't suck in any way. In fact, it's one of the few 2001 games that still looks good.
But yeah, it's an amazing game. I'm surprised you hadn't played till now. And I think that using helps, just like in SotC, ruins the experience a bit.
