This is where I am coming from.
Look. I know where the complaints about the writing are coming from. The story has a lot of detail, and conversations can quickly swap topics etc etc. Thing is, I think this is a similar case in a lot of Anime. I remember lending the Cowboy Bebop movie to a friend and he hated it. Said it was too confusing and the story was all over the place. I loved it.
I wouldn't want Metal Gear any other way than the way it is now.
