I took 15 minutes to check game sites from my bookmarks to verify the bolded sentence. My findings for all those that had "best of E3" awards:
- Gamespy: "Action" category, GoW III is a runner up. Also runner up for "Best PS3 game".
- IGN: "Action" category, GoW III is a runner up. Also runner up for "Best graphics technology" and "Best console game".
- Gametrailers: GoW III wins "Game of the Show". Also, quite naturally, it won "Best PS3 game"
- GameSpot: "Action/Adventure" category, GoW III is a runner up.
- Game Critics Award: "Action/Adventure" category, GoW III is nominated.
- GamePro: GoW III wins "Best Action game". It's also picked as one of the 9 Gold Awards overall.
- X-play: "Best PS3 game" category, GoW III is a runner up (there's no Action nor Action/Adventure category).
- Eurogamer: "Best of Show", GoW III is a runner up (there's no Action nor Action/Adventure category).
Thus, in none of my sites that dealt E3 awards it was absent from the action(/adventure) list where it exists. Where such a category does not exist, it's nominated as best PS3 game or overall best game of Show. In some cases it was also nominated in other categories' lists.
