As I've been saying, the game is FAR from finished and this team is known for polish!!! I expect nothing short of a great experience when this baby ships in 2010!!!! Thoughts? |
Please don't take this as an offense, I'm a huge adventure games fan and I'm very interested in Heavy Rain despite not owning a PS3, but:
Quantic Dream's track record so far: Omikron: The Nomad Soul (1999) and Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy (2005). Both were not very successful, both were no masterpieces according to reviews (Fahrenheit was good at least; never played Omikron).
David Cage sounds more and more like a French Peter Molyneux to me (I mean the Peter of the Lionhead era): Both talk too early and too much about the uniqueness of their sensational upcoming game, both companies take way too long for their next game (presumably too small teams to make the visions of their bosses come true). There's one difference though: Molyneux created some real timeless, unforgotten classics (with Bullfrog) and very good games (with Lionhead).
I hope Heavy Rain delivers and brings whole new aspects to adventure games, but I have more and more the feeling that this game could break the company's neck. QD is not SE or even Lionhead (owned by MS), they are also not Team Ico (owned by Sony?), who managed to get millions of followers behind them with two truly unique games, while QD's earlier games where only played by a few insiders.
Can QD afford such a long development time? And even if so (and provided the game gets great reviews), will it sell as much like - say - Fable 2 or enough to break even?
We will see.
