Nice move by MS, even though 512MB is a unified memory approach, it still allowed for more available system memory than Sony. Yet another misstep by Sony. I'm starting to wonder with these limitations and missteps will Sony fulfill their "10 year" lifespan for PS3. Don't get me wrong I like the PS3 and what it does now but it's shackled by it's smallish memory and a somewhat slow transfer of the bluray and it's GPU. Too bad Sony couldn't wait for all the developments that's happening in the GPU market recently.
