"Like on the new 360 Pix, apparently you can edit shader code on the fly and rerun it, time it, see the results, rinse and repeat, all in pix. I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard that's how it works. Now, that is just too damn cool and useful for me not to use.
But yeah you are right, I could "tough it out", be hardcore, and stick to the PS3 way where I'd:
1) compile and run
2) setup the scene
3) run replay, capture and time
4) see the results
5) tweak the shader
6) go back to step 1
I could do that a few dozen times a day. Or...I could get a 360 dev kit again and just do it all in pix. Hmmmmmmm.....tough call eh? I'm sure there are some masochists out there that would prefer to tough it out. Me, I think I'll be asking for a 360 dev kit again once this project is done. Oddly, I'm finding out that a 360 dev kit is one of the better PS3 development tools."

They haven't banned you from beyond3d yet? :P
1) He says he hasn't actually tried it yet.
2) The only reason he can even consider doing this is because he's coding on top of layers upon layers of inefficient abstraction this is exactly what I was talking about. He's risking unknowable porting quircks to save a bit of time writing a silly little script. This guy is definitely a windows "PC" developer.

1. I blame IBM for not selling them good enough fabrication technologies!
Both IBM's coalition of superfriends and TMSC have been perpetually behind Chipzilla with their 45 nm+high-k metal gate fabs. 45nm+high-k cell was supposed to be out last christmas if you recall. TMSC has even temporarily dropped the high-k metal gate part (which is more important than 45nm).

3. Does IBM make the POWER RANGERS?
They used to, but through various contractual maneuvers Microsoft managed to usurp control over the POWER RANGERS IP which they now market under the HALO moniker. :P
