After having just watched Up for a second time, it got me thinking. There have been so many damn good animated movies over the past three decades or so, from Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro (1979) to Up (2009).

After thinking briefly upon it, and making some difficult cuts, I came to the conclusion that I could not decide between these three:

WALL-E (2008)

  • Directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo)

The Iron Giant (1999):

  • Directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouiile)

Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

  • Directed by Isao Takahata (Pom Poko, My Neighbours the Yamadas)

There are quite a few that I thought difficult to cut from these, but I thought three was already too many.

What is your favourite animated movie?
