I believe there is a chance, because the turn-based gameplay seems to be doing a comeback in this game. It also has a Xenogears vibe to it, so I'm sure it will please both new players in the franchise and old time Final Fantasy fans. With that said, I personally hope we will be able to control more than one character...!
About the gameplay vs other contents a game should have discussion, I'd say I fit in the camp that prefers to see a good story and character development than good gameplay in a RPG. There are so many sub-genres in RPGs, so you play the games you know you will love and that's it: Action RPGs, Turn-based RPGs, Strategy RPGs, etc.... It's up to you to decide if you want to play a game you know you will hate from the start just to see what the development is all about.
From my personal point of view, it's previous obvious from the start that RPGs are not meant to be complicated at all. How I see it, it's a book put into a game, so I want to see a good narrative in them, not something that makes me want to tear my hair out!
