Thats is the worst mis-interpretation of anime ever, as each individual Author sides with there own specific artstyle.
Two great examples Slam Dunk (BEST SPORTS ANIME EVER) which goes for a more realistic approach then Bleach which your generic run of the mill shonen anime.
If anyone wants to start watching anime just look at One piece, Yu Yu Hakusho and Slam Dunk(Not saying those animes are for kids). If your a bit older like 15-21 I advise to watch Elfen Lied, Berserk, Claymore and Full Metal Alchemist.
