I don't mind it. I love Lost Odyssey and i'm enjoying Tales of Vesperia. I think the comparison to shooters is a bad one. Outside of graphics and the addition of using a second analog stick rather than buttons to look around, things haven't changed much since Goldeneye.
Alot of the complaints about JRPGs would be like going into a romantic comedy and being like, "Arggh, there is still romance and comedy in this movie."
