LBP is an awesome game. But it did not create the idea of multiplayer platforming
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2 - 2 player multiplayer co-op platformer that functioned similarly to LBP - there was a player 1 and if you got too far away from him you died (although player 2 had infinite lives)

LBP didn't even create the idea of using something in between 2d and 3d. That was pioneered (as far as I know) by Paper mario
