I think this idea is a good one. I mean, the Wii remote and nunchuk can be used as a traditional controller (i do it with Brawl, to great effect). Their idea takes it a step further: to make it totally modular. This way motion controls can be totally standard, without alienation.
I like Barcciverse's idea, though. The slow introduction of it as something to test the waters. The problem is, due to the nature of HD development, especially given its "safe bet" tendencies, that many of the 3rd party developers, and internal studios, will reject it entirely.
Nintendo succeeded in bringing some measure of acceptance for the controls by cramming it down everyone's throat, at great risk.
