I think JRPG would mean RPG for Japanese market and the most important thing is to please Japanese gamers.
DQ8 is very well reviewed critically and sale wise in Japan. The story, while cliche, is well told because of the characters. The graphic and music are outstanding. The traditional battle system is kept to please the fans. As mentioned by someone earlier, the game is fun for me and quite a lot of Japanese gamers.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
