Eh, the thing about RPG games is they don't rely on technology.... at all.

Their programming mechanics are very simple and could be done even on the NES.

Things like FPS and other games just naturally improve with technology as long as people direct that power towards things like AI and amount of content.

So just like books... the quality of the product will likely vary rather then be a spike upwards.

Of course one could argue that some games like FPS haven't improved much this generation either.

Yet still RPGs have generally been the same since the NES.
