Define "best", OP. Does best mean most interesting, biggest following, most powerful? In each instance, I can name characters that trump Superman. Silver Surfer is infinitely more powerful than Superman. The entire Daxamite race (DC Comics) is more powerful, too. Doomsday punched Superman to death. Goku is Doomsday on meth. He gets stronger with each fight, and he can fly, teleport, throw energy blasts, and think creatively. Batman, the X-Men, and even Spider-Man outsell his comic and out gross his movies at the box office. Most interesting? This is a subjective term, but I don't think Superman is the king of this arena either. I like Superman. His death in 1993 led to me becoming a (serious) fan of comic books. Just because he can win a fictional fight, and the outcome of comic book fights is always up to the discretion of the writer, I can't claim that he's the best.
