No one sees the flaw in these "third party attach rate comments" If third party attach rate is higher on the PS3, but lower overall, than Sony's 1st party titles are draggin down the avergae |
Average attach rates seem almost certain to remain higher on 360 due to the exceptional attach rate of Halo, Gears, etc.
In general, if you look at more recent, multiplatform titles you see a fairly even attach rate, with the exception of shooters/action titles, which still tend (I believe) to have a better attach rate on the 360.
In the end both the PS3/360 have decent attach rates and for most games sell roughly the same. Certain franchises (CoD for example) are always likey to see a better attach rate on 360 due to regional skewing and genre attractiveness. Conversely some franchises/titles actually show a somewhat better attach rate on PS3.
PS3 also has a smaller install base, which helps it average attach rate vs 360 but 360 has released more high selling exclusive franchises so far.
In other words attach rates can fluctuate, are skewed by genre/regions and install base and while often looked at in the industry are IMHO mentioned too often in these forums (not knocking you Gbex just replying to last post I saw on this topic).
I wish people would just accept that both the HD consoles have solid franchises, etc. and both are looking pretty solid for multiplatform sales.
As for exclusives, clearly both have recieved exclusives you could argue would have worked better on the other - but that's the price of being competitive. If MS didn't want to compete they'd have stuck to Halo, etc. and never bothered paying for RPGs, etc. that would very likely have sold better on PS3 (if only by dint of PS3 advantage in Japan) and i don't mean Western RPGS of course. Similarly if Sony didn't want to compete they'd have stuck to their franchises/strenghs and not bothered looking for more FPS, etc. on the console.
But both want to offer experiences the other has so of course you see exclusive FPS on PS3 and exclusive jRPGs on 360, etc.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
