This is how PS3 sales went in the previous fiscal year. Divided into three periods to make it easy:

Period 1: April-October 2008 (pre-holiday): 5 million
Period 2: November-December 2008 (holiday season): 3.1 million
Period 3: January-March 2009 (Q1): 2 million

Without a price cut before the holidays, it's on target to sell 3-4 million in period 1 this year. Then it needs at least 9 million in periods 2 and 3 combined, compared to 5 million last year.

That's an increase of exactly 80%, or almost doubling sales in the holiday period and Q1... Do you think a price cut, slim and GT5 in March (i.e. almost the end of the year) can do that?

Thanks NJ5 for making it clearer. I can't access a lot of the features because the top menu is broken for me. I don't think its possible because $299 isn't significantly different enough in price to $399 to expect a doubling of sales (nearly). Especially as one would expect Microsoft to aslo drop the price enough to maintain the relative gap between the Xbox 360 and the PS3 as 50% for the Xbox 360 Arcade ($150) and between $50-75 for the Xbox 360 Premium ($225-$250 or 25-16% cheaper)
