Including bluray in the PS3 made bluray win against HD-DVD, and is driving bluray sales pretty well (never enough for the nay sayers, but I'm pretty sure sony is happy with it).
Bluray is a great addition for gaming too, see uncharted's streaming relulting in no loading.
On the other hand, it was overpriced for the game console market, resulting in pretty bad sales at the original price, and huge loss of money for sony.
Most of the pricing problem is solved now, we should only see the benefits now.
Anyway, I'm really glad I have a bluray player at home to go with my HD TV.
