I've never seen people into it that bad, but I've never gone to a tournament or really been interested enough to do so.  It's a fun hobby to play with friends.

I used to read about this stuff all the time.  When I was a big consumer psychology buff it was a crazy thing to read since it's just amazing what they've been able to create and how long it lasted before it got strong rivals.
