I think after E3 and the fall line up for PS3 and XBOX360 consoles, i think the August price cut for the PS3 makes perfect sense.
XBOX360 has Halo ODST launching around September than Forza 3 is coming in October.
the big title for PS3 Uncharted 2 and Ratchet & Clank are only going to come in October November.
So i think if Sony has planned to reduce the price this yr than they will try to spoil the MS big title launch as much as possible. and August make perfect sense.
Secondly Sony has set the target of 13 million this fiscal yr and they are already selling below last yr sales so they need to reduce the price as quickly as possible, and i think October will be too late for it, the maximum they can delay is till September of this yr, else they will not be able to build the momentum for the x-mas sales.
